All eyes were on the Vision for Vision group last Thursday (3/4/10) as the student organization held its on-campus awareness drive in honor of, if not exactly on, World Glaucoma Day on the University of Southern California University Park Campus! Due to the university schedule, the scheduling of the USC chapter’s Vision for Vision World Glaucoma Day event was shifted from the actual day of the international day of action for glaucoma awareness, but the organization nevertheless successfully ran its campaign to inform the students at the University of Southern California of the importance of annual eye care testing. The Vision for Vision group was able to distribute 150 pages to USC students, faculty, and visiting prospective students and their families. Through this effort, we were also successful in working to establish its name on the USC campus and attract attention to our efforts for health awareness. As an event held in the middle of campus during peak hours for student traffic, our World Glaucoma Day awareness efforts reached a wide variety of individuals raising awareness about the importance of eye care examinations and generating interest in our organization. We hope that the enthusiasm and interest displayed by the Vision for Vision members and the students on campus that we talk to is an indication of the success of the USC chapter of Vision for Vision in its efforts to combat the prevalence of preventable cases of blindness from treatable conditions.
